The Ibn Sina Reading Club was inaugurated on Sunday, 6th October, 2019 by Prof. Parvaiz Talib, Chairman, Dept. of Business Administration, Faculty of Management Studies and Research, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh.
The convener of the Reading Club, Abdullah Zaman, highlighted the achievements of the medieval past which was fueled by not just immense reading but a culture of contemplation and dialogue to support it. He stressed the need for such cultural development in the form of the Reading Club.
Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman (Trustee and Co-founder, Ibn Sina Academy) described the mission of the Ibn Sina Academy and how the Ibn Sina Reading Club fits into the bigger picture of the same.
Prof. Parvaiz Talib officially inaugurated the Club by reading to the audience an excerpt from the book Safar Naseeb by Mukhtar Masood. The recording of the recital is available on YouTube.
The inauguration was concluded by the consensus of the attendees that the Ibn Sina Reading Club meet every week preferably on Sunday at 12 noon.
Weekly meetings of the members organize enough discussion, contemplation and food for thought to be carried on till the next week. The discussions ranged from the true intent with deeper metaphysical meanings behind the iconic pop culture classics and how the secular profane is connected to the spiritual domains. The club members drench with the readings of fiction, finance, leadership, and all sorts of conspiracy theories.
Currently due to Covid restrictions, the sessions are being held online via video conferencing. The club consists of a committee of three people, namely, Abdullah Zaman (Convener), Bilal Ahmad, Muttayab Khan.
Abu Ali Ibn Sina is a well-known personality among the physicians of Unani medicine and scientists of physical sciences since medieval times. To commemorate and to institutionalize an academy named after him, Ibn Sina Academy of Medieval Medicine & Sciences was founded on March 1, 2000. The Academy has been registered under Indian Trusts Act, 1882 and was formally inaugurated on April 20, 2001. Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India gave accreditation to the academy in 2004 and promoted it as ‘Centre of Excellence’ in 2008. The Academy is now a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit organization with multiple aims and objectives.
